This is interesting for two reasons.

The M1 is one of those sweet-spot devicesthat Apple makes every now and then.

The M1 MacBook Air wasa huge leap, performance-wise, over the Intel version.

The current M3 MacBook Air is $1,099, the previous-gen M2 model is $999.

The M1 is $300 cheaper than that.

It’s not a slam-dunk decision though.

Also, one wonders how long Apple will support the M1 Macs.

Walmart Effect

From the buyer’s point of view, then, this is a great deal.

But what’s in it for Apple and for Walmart?

Being the only place to get a cheap Mac is a boon to business.

So, Walmart’s interest is obvious: A cheap computer that nobody else sells.

For Apple, though, it’s more interesting.

In the meantime, next time you’re in the market for a MacBook, remember to check Walmart.
