What Is a Z File?
A file with the Zfile extensionis a Unix compressed file.
Like other archive file formats, this one is used to compress a file for backup/archive purposes.
However, unlike more complex archives, Z files can store just one file and no folders.
How to Open a Z File
Z files can be opened with7-Zipand mostother zip/unzip programs.
For example, aname.tar.zfile is an archive that, when opened, contains aTARfile.
Some files may have file extensions like 7Z.Z00, .7Z.Z01, 7Z.Z02, etc.
you’ve got the option to join these files using various file zip/unzip programs.
The same is true for any format, likeAVI,MP4,MP3,WAV, etc.
Still Can’t Open It?
Z is a rare file extension because it’s just one letter.
This makes it easy to confuse for other, similar-looking file extensions like ZI or ZW.
However, two similar file extensions aren’t necessarily related or associated with the same tools.
Another similar one is Z1, which is reserved for ZoneAlarm VB files and Z-machine source code files.
