And that’s not good.

When it launched in 2018, theiPad Pro was 5.9mm thick.

The only thinner Apple gear was the 7th-generation iPod Nano, at 5.4mm.

Has Apple gone too far?

I take my iPad on all of my travels and conduct quite a bit of work on it.

Bendgate Redux

The iPad Pro, even the large, skinny 12.9-inch model, is surprisingly tough.

But it is also extremely easy to bend.

That’s not great for a portable computer.

So why is Apple making the iPad even thinner?

After all, it’s not like it needs to shave off any depth.

Unlike the iPhone, you never have to slip an iPad into a tight jeans pocket.

The reason for the reduction seems to be the iPad Pro’s new OLED screen.

OLED pixels glow by themselves, so no backlight layer is required.

That makes for a thinner display overall.

First of all, why not beef up tablet functionality first?

Or you could fill the extra space with more battery.

And maybe make it waterproof like the iPhone.

I don’t think I’ll be able to watch.
