Ive owned a handful of headphones over the years.
Over-ear, in-ear, wired, wireless.

OpenRock X Open-Ear headphones with charging case.Lifewire / Jon Fisher
But open-ear air conduction headphones?
That was a first for me.
Wow, are they comfortable!

Lets get into how it felt to wear, listen, and chargethese unique earbuds.
Its just a block of aluminum alloy, but pressing one end pops it open with this oh-so-satisfying click.
The whole process is oddly addictive.

Pairing is as simple as it gets.
Oh, and it charges via USB-C, which is always a plus.
I just wish the 1-foot cable was longer.

But they’re pretty intuitive, so I just kind of winged it.
Turns out, it’s as simple as it looks.
OpenRock claims they last for 12 hours, or a whopping 48 hours with the charging case.
And because these are open-ear headphones, they don’t block your ear canal.
These headphones are IPX5 water-resistant, so sweat or light rain shouldn’t be an issue.
Using the OpenRock App
The OpenRock app is fantastic.
There’s also a custom option if you want to fine-tune things.
Each earbud has a single button, and you’re able to customize the gestures in the app.
I love that the volume adjustments are subtle; some headphones have huge jumps between levels.
I hardly ever had to take my phone out of my pocket.
I wish I could customize those too, but the default options aren’t bad.
Something I want to call out is the button itself.
Some earbuds rely on touch controls, which can be frustratingly easy to trigger accidentally.
OpenRock X Sound Quality
The sound quality is impressive, especially the bass.
Calls were clear, likely thanks to the four beam-forming microphones and AI noise reduction.
But the real magic lies in the open-ear design.
I enjoyed my music and could take calls without feeling isolated.
It’s a subtle difference that I appreciated.
One concern I had was potential sound leakagewould people around me hear my music and calls?
After all, I considered these to be like tiny speakers hanging on my ears.
I put this to the test and was pleasantly surprised.
Are the OpenRock X Worth It?
I’m really impressed with these.
I recommend giving these a try if you’ve struggled to use other headphones.
