After your team finishes the review, compare your original data with the reviewers' changed data.

Then, accept or reject their changes, and turn off Track Changes to finalize the document.

Can You Track Changes in Excel?

When you want your team to review and edit your Excel workbook, you have two options.

You’ll only see the track changes commands in the Review tab of Excel 2016 and older versions.

Microsoft recommends that you use the co-authoring feature of Excel, which replaces Shared Workbooks.

Co-authoring is only available with a Microsoft 365 subscription.

In theExcel Optionsdialog box, selectCustomize Ribbon.

Select theCustomize the Ribbondrop-down arrow and chooseMain Tabs.

Expand and highlight theReviewcategory.

check that theNew Groupentry is highlighted, then selectRename.

In theRenamedialog box, enter a display name for the group.

For example, enterTrack Changes.

Expand the Review tab

SelectOKto apply the change and close theRenamedialog box.

SelectOKto apply your changes and close theExcel Optionsdialog box.

The four track changes commands appear on theReviewtab in the new group that you created.

Go to theReviewtab and selectTrack Changes>Highlight Changes.

In theHighlight Changesdialog box, select theTrack changes while editingcheck box.

Select theWhencheck box and set it toAll.

Rename the new group in Excel

Select theWhocheck box and set it toEveryone.

Select theHighlight changes on screencheck box.

On theReviewtab, selectShare Workbook.

Enter a name for the new group

On theReviewtab, selectProtect Shared Workbook.

In theProtect Shared Workbookdialog box, select theSharing with track changescheck box.

For example, upload the workbook to aSharePointsite, aOneDrive folder, or Dropbox.

The Track Changes feature doesn’t work with workbooks that contain tables.

Tables must be converted to a range.

After the workbook is uploaded, inform your team members that the file is ready for their review.

One way to do this is to use theShare feature in Excel.

Go to theReviewtab and selectTrack Changes>Accept or Reject Changes.

For each change, select eitherAcceptorReject.
