Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator Setup Directions

Steam makes it easy to configure the mobile authenticator feature.

Skip to Step 4 if you’re already logged into the mobile app.

Install Steam on your gear if you don’t already have it.

drop your account name and password, then tapSign in.

Look for an email from Steam with a temporary Steam Guard code.

Enter that code into the app on your mobile machine and tapSign into continue.

Tap theshieldicon at the bottom of the app if it’s not already selected, then tapAdd authenticator.

Another email from Steam contains a new code specifically for setting up the authenticator feature.

Enter it into the app and then tapVerify code.

Record the recovery code somewhere safe and then tapDone.

This can be used later to restore your account should you lose your phone.

Steam Guard mobile authenticator is now set up and provides QR scanning and 2FA code options.

Valve also recommends that youadd a phone number to your accountfor another recovery option should you need one.

Here’s how it works:

Tap theSteam Guardtab (shield icon) at the bottom of the app.

QR codes refresh every so often, too, expiring the previous ones in the process.

initiate the authenticator again and generate a new code.

The authenticator doesn’t require an internet connection, but it does rely on the time being accurate.

What is Steam Guard?

Steam Guard is atwo-factor authenticationfeature of Steam.

It provides an additional level of security above your username and password.

There are two versions of Steam Guard.

The basic version sends a code to your email whenever you sign on from a new unit.
