Here’s how it works.

Open an app on the iPad.

Tap thethree dotsat the center of the screen near the top to fire up the multitasking menu.

The three dots don’t appear at the top of apps that don’t support split view.

The icon on the right side of the multitasking menu is for the Slide Over feature.

Tap the middle icon for Split View.

Scroll through the screens and tap an app.

The two apps appear side by side on the screen.

They are spaced so that each app takes up half the screen.

Now you could work back and forth in the two apps.

To exit split view, tap the three dots at the top of the screen and tap theleft icon.

Slide Over is also available in the multitasking mode.

Active by default, this setting may have been disabled at some point either manually or by an app.

Take the following steps to ensure that multiple apps are allowed to be viewed simultaneously on your iPad.

TapSettingslocated on your iPad Home Screen.

SelectGeneralin the left panel.

TapMultitasking & Dock(orHomescreen & Dockdepending on the iOS version).

Locate theAllow Multiple Appssetting, found at the top of the screen.

If the toggle accompanying it is green, then the setting is active.

From your iPadHomescreen, pop crack open the first app you wish to use in split-screen mode.

A shortcut to this particular app doesnothave to be in your Dock.

Slowly swipe up from the bottom of your screen so that the Dock is displayed.

Tap and hold the icon for the second app in the Dock.

Next, drag the app icon and release it anywhere outside of the Dock.

The second app will be displayed in Slide Over mode, overlaying part of the first app.

Youll notice a dark grey horizontal line at the top of the second apps window.

Tap and drag this line down, letting go when the app window transforms.

Both apps should be visible side-by-side in Split View mode.

Position the cursor on the gray vertical line dividing the two screens.

Open a window and hover the cursor above the green circle in the upper left corner.

Select eitherTile Window to Left of ScreenorTile Window to Right of Screen.

On the other half of the screen, select a window to view in split screen.
