This means you’ve got the option to access your Gmail account through Mail.

Here’s how to access IMAP-configured Gmail on a Mac by adding your account to the Mail app.

In theChoose a Mail account providerscreen, selectGoogleand clickContinue.

Review them and then clickAllowat the bottom of the screen.

Click theiicon next to each item for more information.

hit the check box next to each app you want to sync, then clickDone.

Along with your mail, you might opt to sync your Contacts, Calendars, and Notes from Gmail.

The address you added will now appear in theMailboxessection of the Mail sidebar.

Using IMAP with Gmail requires IMAP server options.

To use Gmail via POP requires that you enable POP through your Gmail account.

If you do that, you might also need to enter theGmail POP server settingsin Mail.
