Our example function will add and subtract months from the date January 1, 2016.

The steps below walk you through how to input the EOMONTH function using the function’s dialog box.

Selectcell B3to make it the active cell.

In the ribbon, select theFormulastab.

SelectDate and Timeto fire up the function drop-down menu.

SelectEOMONTHto bring up theFunction Dialog Box.

Selectcell A3in the worksheet to enter that cell reference.

Selectcell B2in the worksheet to enter that cell reference.

SelectOKto return to the worksheet.

Highlight the cells that contain or will contain dates in the worksheet.

PressCtrl+1on your keyboard to open theFormat Cellsdialog box.

In the dialog box, select theNumbertab.

In the Category list window, selectDate.

In theTypewindow, choose on the desired date format.

If the selected cells contain data, the Sample box will display a preview of the selected format.

SelectOKto save the format change and kill the dialog box.

ChooseFormat Cellsto bring up the Format Cells dialog box.

Widening the cell will correct the problem.
