How Do You Set Up Port Forwarding?
The traffic that passes through your router does so through ports.
Every port is like a special pipe made for a specific kind of traffic.

For example, FTP servers listen for incoming connections onport 21.
Port range forwarding is similar to port forwarding but is used to forward an entire range of ports.
Below are two primary steps you’re gonna wanna complete to forward ports on a router.

For example, if your rig runs torrenting software, assign a static IP address to that computer.
If your gaming console uses a specific range of ports, it needs a static IP address.
There are two ways to do this: from the router and from the computer.
When you set up a static IP address for your setup, it’s easier to do it there.
Open Command Prompton the computer.
Ignore anything else, like Bluetooth, VMware, VirtualBox, and other non-default entries.

Now, you’re free to use that information to set up the static IP address.
Open theRundialog box with theWIN+Rkeyboard shortcut, enterncpa.cpl, and selectOKto open connection Connections.
Right-click or tap-and-hold the connection that has the same name as the one you identified in Command Prompt.

For example,Ethernet0.
ChooseInternet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)from the list, then selectProperties.
SelectUse the following IP address.
ChooseOKwhen you’re done.
For example, use 192.168.1.21or above.
Do this when a non-computer gadget needs an unchanging address (like a gaming console or a printer).

enter the router as admin.
Locate a Client List, DHCP Pool, DHCP Reservation, or similar section of the options.
The section lists the devices currently connected to the router.

The IP address of the machine is listed along with its name.
You might need to grab the IP address from a list or chooseAddorReserve.
A workaround involving setting up adynamic DNS serviceis just as helpful.

jump in to the router as admin.
You need toknow the router’s IP address, username, and password.
Locate the port forwarding options.

These might be buried within other categories of tweaks like web connection, Wireless, or Advanced.
key in the port number or port range that you want to forward.
If you’re forwarding one port, punch in the same number under both theInternalandExternalboxes.

For port ranges, use theStartandEndboxes.
Most games and programs indicate which ports must be open on the router.
If you don’t know what numbers to throw in here, PortForward.com has a list of common ports.
Choose a protocol, eitherTCP or UDP ports.
Choose both, if needed.
This information should be available from the program or game that explains the port number.
key in the static IP address you chose.
If asked, name the port trigger anything that makes sense to you.
If it’s for an FTP program, call itFTP.
Call itMedal of Honorif you need the port open for that game.
turn on the port forwarding rule with anEnableorOnoption.
The same port needs to be open on the router and your system for the software to use it.

If the port is closed on the firewall, edit some firewall configs to open it.
When you open a port on the router, traffic can flow in and out of it.
There are websites and tools build specifically for this.
PortChecker.co andNetworkAppershave online port checkers that scan a online grid from the outside.
Another option is to downloadAdvanced Port ScannerorFreePortScannerto scan devices within your private internet.
Only one port forward can exist for every instance of that port.
This may be possible from the software options or through a registry hack.
