The instructions apply to all versions of Windows 11.
Unfortunately, you might’t record your desktop or File Explorer with the Xbox Game Bar.
To do that, you’ll need to use a different method.

Select theSettings gearin the top toolbar, then selectCapturingon the left side of the parameters window.
UnderAudio to Record, chooseAllto capture all system sounds orGameto record only audio from the app.
When you’re done, end the prefs window and pressEscon the keyboard to end the Xbox Game Bar.

Check the box next toRecord in the background while I’m playing a gameto automatically record gameplay.
bring up the app or game you want to record.
PressWin+Alt+Ron your keyboard, or fire up the Xbox Game Bar and select theRecordbutton in the Capture window.

The recording window will appear in the upper-right corner of the screen indicating that your screen is being recorded.
To finish recording, select theStopbutton or pressWin+Alt+R.
pick the pop-up notification or initiate the Xbox Game Bar to review your recordings.

You’ll see your recording in the Xbox Game Bar Gallery.
It’s built-in to Windows 11 and is accessible through theWin+Shift+Skeyboard shortcut.
You’ll need a Microsoft 365 subscription to use the feature.

In a blank presentation, go to theInserttab and selectMedia>Screen Recording.
ChooseSelect Areain the screen recorder window, then click and drag over the area you want to capture.
Make sureAudiois selected to record sound with your video.

DisableRecord Pointerto hide the mouse cursor.
SelectRecordto begin the recording.
When you’re finished recording, selectStop, or pressWin+Shift+Q.

Your recording will appear in the slide.
Right-hit the video and selectSave Media asto save it as anMP4 file.
With Snagit, for instance, you’ve got the option to extract specific frames and create GIFs.
