Information applies to iPod Touch devices running iOS 12 and later.
Connect the iPod Touch to the Mac via cable.
SelectiPod Touchin the Locations section of the Finder sidebar.

The computer erases your iPod Touch and installs the latest iPod software.
Your iPod restarts and you might set it up as new.
It will also load the latest compatible iPod software.

On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier (or on a PC), openiTunes.
Connect your iPod to your system and unlock it, entering your passcode if prompted.
pick the small icon representing your equipment in the upper left corner of iTunes.

The computer erases your iPod and installs the latest iOS version.
Your iPod Touch will restart and you’re free to set it up as new.
Scroll down and tapReset.

TapErase All Content and options.
If prompted, enter yourApple ID/Apple Accountorpasscode.
Wait a few minutes, and then your iPod will be reset to factory parameters.

Turn on your gear.
You should see aHelloscreen.
TapRestore from iCloud Backup.
Use your Apple Account to sign in to iCloud.
Once you select a backup, the transfer begins.
When prompted, sign in with your Apple Account to restore your apps and purchases.
You’ll see a progress bar with the messageRestore from iCloud.
Stay connected to Wi-Fi during this process.
When this process is complete, finish the rest of the setup steps and enjoy your iPod Touch.
Connect your equipment to your gear with aUSB cable.
If prompted, key in your machine passcode.
Select youriPod Touchwhen it appears in the Finder window or iTunes.
Carefully choose the backup you want, paying attention to dates and times.
SelectRestoreand wait for the process to finish.
Keep your iPod Touch connected.
The gear will restart and sync with your setup.
Disconnect only after it’s done syncing, and enjoy your restored iPod.
