A hard reset does not restore the 3DS back to its default options.

A hard reset is simply a reboot, which is different from afactory reset.

On the bottom screen, tap the shopping carticon on the homemenu to open theNintendo eShop.

In the eShop, tapMenuin the top-left corner of the screen.

Scroll down and selectSettings / Other.

In theHistorysection, tapUpdates.

Look for your game or app.

If you seeUpdate Availableabove it,tapDownloadorUpdateand follow the on-screen prompts.

Seewhat to do if the update fails.

Previously purchased games and apps on the 3DS can be downloaded again at no cost.

Scroll and selectSettings / Other.

In theHistorysection, selectRedownloadable Software.

TapYour Downloadsat the very bottom of the screen.

Locate the game you want to repair and tapSoftware Infounder it.

Scroll down and tapRepair Software, then tapOKto check for errors.

you could choose to repair the software even if no errors are found.

When the software check is finished, tapOKandDownloadto start the repair.

The software download does not overwrite any saved data.

To finish, tapContinueand theHomebutton.
