With the workbook open, selectFile>Info>Protect Password.
pick the Protect Workbook drop-down menu, then selectEncrypt with Password.
Enter astrong passwordin the pop-up window and selectOK.

Reenter the password, typing it exactly as you did it in the first window.
Your workbook is now protected from anyone opening it if they don’t know the password.
When anyone tries to launch the worksheet, they see a pop-up window asking for the password.

If they enter the password incorrectly, Excel lets them attempt to enter it a second time.
If they fail to enter the correct password again, the worksheet won’t open.
This is the best method tosecure your Excel files.

To remove the workbook password protection, repeat the process above but dump the password field and selectOK.
It becomes read-only for anyone without the password.
With your worksheet open, selectFile>Save As.

Then, selectBrowseto launch the file browse window.
In the Save As window, selectToolsand chooseGeneral Optionsin the drop-down menu.
In the General Options window, jot down a password into thePassword to modifyfield.

This works just like the Info password protection described above.
SelectOKto wrap up the confirmation window andSave.
This is useful for sending reports with complex calculations and formulas.

It protects the structure of the workbook itself, rather than the contents.
With the workbook open, selectReview>Protect Workbook.
pop in a password and then selectOK.

You are prompted to enter the password again.
