Organize links to your favorite sites

Bookmarks tend to get out of hand.

One way to get and keep them under control is to store them in folders.

To enter the Safari sidebar, clickBookmarks>Show Bookmarks.

In older versions of Safari, the menu item might sayShow All Bookmarks.

An alternative method to reveal the Safari sidebar is to use theSidebarbutton in the Safari toolbar.

There are two main places to save bookmarks andbookmark folders: theFavoritesbar and theBookmarksmenu.

TheFavoritesbar is located near the top of the Safari window.

TheFavoritesbaris a great place to keep your favorite websites handy, either as individual links or in folders.

Using folders rather than links in theFavoritesbar makes an almost endless array of websites immediately available from the bar.

Adding a bookmarks folder in Safari

It also provides a second way to access theFavoritesbar, as well as bookmark-related commands.

Others, such as Crafts, Gardening, Woodworking, or Pets, are more personal.

Naming Your Bookmarks

To add a folder:

SelectBookmarks>Add Bookmark Folder.

Safari Bookmarks > Show Bookmarks

A new folder nameduntitled folderwill appear at the bottom of theBookmarkssection, ready for you to change it.

jot down in a new name, and pressReturnorEnter.

For example, you might have a top-level folder calledHomethat includes subfolders calledCooking,Decorating, andGardening.

Add a subfolder to Safari’s Bookmarks bar

To add a subfolder:

Open theSafarisidebar (Bookmarks>Show Bookmarks).

Select theFavorites Baror theBookmarks Menuentry, depending on the location of the top-level folder.

From the Bookmarks menu, selectAdd Bookmark Folder.

key in in a new name, and pressReturnorEnter.

Organize Folders in the Favorites Bar

Rearranging the folders in theFavoritesbar is easy.

To delete a folder from yourBookmarksmenu orFavoritesbar, right-punch the folder, and selectRemovefrom the pop-up menu.

The folder’s name will be highlighted, ready for you to edit.
