Open a Chrome internet tool window.

Select theMorebutton, which is three dots in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window, and selectSettings.

snag the arrow to the right ofSite Settingsin thePrivacy and Securitysection.

Scroll down and selectAdditional permissions>Handlers.

ToggleAllow sites to ask to become default handlers for protocols (recommended)toOn.

Open Gmail in your Chrome web app.

A pop-up window opens requesting to allow Gmail to open email links.

Open a Firefox online window window.

Select theOpen Menubutton in the upper-right corner of the Firefox window.

In theGeneraltab, scroll to theApplicationssection.

Entermailtoin the Content pop in search box and select it from the results list.

pick the drop-down arrow to the right ofUse Mailand chooseUse Gmail.

Close theabout:preferencespage.

The changes are saved automatically and Gmail is now the default email program.

In Windows 10, typedefaultinto the Windows search box and chooseDefault App Settingsin the list of results.

In Windows 8 or Windows 7, selectStart, selectControl Panel,choosePrograms,and selectDefault Programs.

SelectEmailunder Choose Default Apps in Windows 10.

SelectGoogle Chromeas the email client and exit the window.
