Instructions are provided for Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7.
In theDevice Managerwindow that opens, snag the arrow to expandImaging devices.
Right-click your camera’s name and selectDisable equipment.

You’ll probably need to expand theImaging Devicescategory to see your camera.
To do this, hit the right-pointing arrow to the left of the category name.
This opens the category and shows all the devices within that category.

If asked for confirmation, chooseYes.
Your camera is turned off for all apps and services.
In Windows 11 and 10:
Select theSettingsicon in theStartmenu.

ChoosePrivacy(orPrivacy & Security).
Why Disable Your Webcam?
If privacy is a concern, you may want to turn off the integrated webcam on your system altogether.

You don’t wantmalware to take control of the camerato spy on you and your home.
There’s no way to ignore the security concerns presented by the webcam built into your box.
SelectImaging Devicesand double-click your webcam in the list.

punch theDrivertab and selectDisableto kill the webcam.
ChooseYeswhen asked if you want to disable your webcam.
In a meeting, select theStop Videoicon (the camera with a slash) in the toolbar.
Tohide self-view in Zoom, right-click your image in Gallery mode and selectHide Self View.
