Occasionally it can be too protective and block programs that you actually do trust from performing their necessary duties.

In those cases, you’ll want to turn off Norton at least temporarily.

Instructions in this article apply to Windows 10 and macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and higher.

Right-click theNorton Securityicon, located in the notification section of your Windows taskbar.

When the pop-up menu appears, selectDisable Auto-Protect.

ASecurity Requestdialog should now appear, overlaying your desktop and other active applications.

pick the drop-down menu labeledSelect the duration.

SelectOKto turn off Norton protection for the specified duration.

Disabling your firewall could prove dangerous, so proceed with caution.

To do so, simply follow the steps above, replacingAuto-ProtectwithSmart Firewallwhere applicable.

UnderGeneral options, inSmart Firewall, turnOffby toggling switch.

You may get prompted for a duration, grab the amount of time then selectOK.

SelectNorton Security, located in your macOS Dock.

It appears as a yellow circle with a white interior and a black check mark in its foreground.

TheNorton Securityinterface should now be displayed, overlaying your desktop.

SelectProtect My Mac, located in the left menu, if it’s not already selected.

Ensure thatAutomatic ScansandIdle Scansoptions are disabled (gray).

SelectFirewall, located in the left menu pane.

Toggle off (gray) the options forConnection BlockingandVulnerability Protection.
