Manage your contacts more easily
What to Know
This article explains how to delete contacts on WhatsApp.
Contacts will never know you deleted them because no notifications are sent to contacts when deleted.
Keep in mind the opposite is true as well.
Open WhatsApp and tapChats.
In the upper-right corner of the Chats screen, tap thechat composericon.
On iOS, the chat composer looks like a pencil inside a square.
Tap the contact to open a chat screen.
At the top of the chat screen, tap thecontact’s nameto go to their profile.
In the upper-right corner of the contact’s profile, tapEdit.
TapDelete Contactto delete the contact from both WhatsApp and your unit’s contacts.
Deleting a contact on iOS won’t delete any chat history you had with them.
On Android, the chat composer looks like a small message icon inside a circle.
Scroll through your contact list or use the search function to find the contact you want to delete.
Tap thecontactto open a chat screen.
At the top of the chat screen, tap thecontact’snameto go to their profile.
In the upper-right corner of the contact’s profile, tap thethree vertical dots.
In the address book, tap thethree vertical dots>Delete.
TapDeleteagain toremove them from WhatsApp and your unit’s contacts.
Tap thechat composericon >three vertical dots>Refresh.
The deleted contact(s) should no longer appear in your contact list.
Todelete your WhatsApp accountin the app, tap thethree-dot menu>options>Account>Delete my account.
Alternatively, you could temporarily deactivate your WhatsApp account.
Toblock a WhatsApp contact, tap thethree-dot menu>controls>Account>Privacy>Blocked>Add New.
