Here’s what to do:
Identify the video ports on your laptop and monitor.
Dell laptops support a variety of video connection standards, includingVGA,DVI,S-Video,HDMI, andDisplayPort.
The cable goes by the same name as the port you identified in the prior step.
For example, you’ll need an HDMI cable if your laptop and monitor use HDMI.
These typically come with the monitor, but it’s possible for you to buy them independently.
There are also HDMI-to-DVI and VGA-to-HMDI converters.
The monitor should immediately register and show a duplicate of your laptop’s display or an additional desktop.
If you don’t see anything, see the next section below.
If the monitor doesn’t display anything, see if you need toupdate your graphics drivers.
Drivers are available through various methods, but the best is to visitDell’s Drivers & Downloadspage.
Optionally configure the display resolution, font size, and color options.
In Windows 11 and Windows 10, this is possible through the prefs app viaSystem>Display.
you’re free to also choose to extend the displays or duplicate them.
In Windows 11 or Windows 10, go toSettings>System>Display,then selectDetectunderMultiple displays.
You’ll then be able to switch between screens.
Some Dell monitors have aninput selectbutton you’re free to press to switch between video inputs.
Can My Dell Laptop Connect to an External Monitor?
Most external monitors are compatible with Dell laptops; you don’t need a Dell brand monitor.
You canconnect your laptop to a Nintendo Switchusing a capture card like the Elgato HD60 HDMI.
launch the software that came with it and you should see the Switch’s screen there.
Put the capture software into fullscreen mode so the games you play take up the entire screen.
Under theMultiple Displayssection, choose how you want your desktop to display across the screens, then selectKeep Changes.
If both monitors aren’t showing up, selectDetect.
you could use Sony’s Remote Play feature to stream games onto your PC.
Both your console and laptop need to be connected to the same web connection.
