After you do so, configure the email client to download your messages from the Gmail server.

POP options are needed only to accessincomingmessages.

To use your email effectively, configure theGmail SMTP server settingsforoutgoingmessages.

In theSettingsscreen, select theForwarding and POP/IMAPtab.

In thePOP downloadsection, chooseEnable POP for all mailorEnable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

When you’ve made your selections, selectSave Changes.

Here’s how to set up Gmail in Outlook:

In Outlook, go to theFiletab and selectInfo.

SelectAccount prefs>Account prefs.

Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.

In theAccount Settingsdialog box, go to theEmailtab and selectNew.

In theAdd Accountdialog box, input your name, Gmail address, and password.

Outlook fills in the rest of the server details for you.
