How to Chat in Mozilla Thunderbird

Instructions apply to Thunderbird 15 and later.

Start the New Account Wizard

Thunderbird’s New Account Wizard makes it easy to configure chat.

At the top of the Thunderbird window, selectFile> New.

For IRC, you’ll have to key in your IRC server name, e.g.

irc.mozilla.org for Mozilla’s IRC server.

For XMPP, you’ll also have to put in your XMPP server name.

Enter thepasswordfor your chat service.

When you reach Advanced Options, just clickContinue, as you won’t need these tweaks.

You will be presented with a Summary screen.

ClickFinishto finish the wizard and start chatting.

ClickConnectnext to the account you want to go online with.

choose theChattab next to theWritetab to start and join conversations.
