Technically, it can’t be turned off, at least not officially.

Below are some workarounds that will hide AI Overviews in some situations.

Edit Chrome’s controls

The other method is to edit your search engine controls in Chrome.

Red X over AI Overview on Google Search

This is the next best option if you don’t want to install an extension.

Open Chrome’s controls by selecting thethree dotsat the top right and then choosingSettingsat the bottom of the menu.

SelectSearch engineon the left.

SelectManage search engines and site searchon the right.

Scroll down and selectAddnext to theSite searchsection.

Google AI Overviews is now hidden.

Search engine settings in the Chrome desktop browser

The results now open directly to theWebsection instead ofAll, which is where AI Overview lives.

Fortunately, there’s a handy website that can help us with that.
