This list issorted alphabeticallyby the first name and then by the last name.
If you’d rather sort the list by the last name followed by the first name, change it.
SelectAccount prefs>Account prefs.

Go to theAddress Bookstab, chooseOutlook Address Book, then selectChange.
In theOutlook Address Bookssection, select theaddress bookthat you want to change the contact display format.
In theShow names bysection, selectFile As (Smith, John).

In theAccount Settingsdialog box, selectClose.
Exit and restart Outlook.
Create a new email message and select theTo field.

The contacts are sorted in the order you selected.
Go to theHometab and, in theCurrent Viewgroup, selectList.
choose the column header for the column you want to sort.

Sorting your contacts list makes it much more helpful to find individual contacts.
To format individual contacts:
In theContacts list, double-poke the contact you want to format.
On theContactpage, select theFile asdrop-down arrow and choose how the contact name should be displayed.

The contact is formatted the way you’ve selected in theFile As field.
