The best folding bike ever?

Bromptons are kind of a throwback in the modern world.

And, surprising nobody, it’s mostly just an improvement on the original, almost perfect, design.

“Folding bikes offer incredible convenience, making them perfect for urban living and commuting.

But there are trade-offs.

The wheels are often too close together.

Or the bike folds, but the fold isn’t small enough.

And it is tiny when folded; barely bigger than its wheels.

But the one thing it’s not great at is going off-road.

And that’s where the G Line comes in.

The new version comes with disk brakes and a Shimano 8-speed Alfine internal rear hub gear.

What it is great for, though, is everything else, from commuting to shopping to touring.

There’s something about a Brompton that takes it beyond the usual folding bike.

For example, years ago I took mine to Las Vegas for the CES trade show.

It’s the ultimate multi-modal transport.

If this is coming over as a little gushy, that’s fine.

The downside is that it starts at 2,399, or $3,199.
