What Is an ASE File?

The format makes it easy to share colors between programs.

Autodesk software can export files with this extension to the Autodesk ASCII Scene Export format.

They’re used asplain text filesthat store information about 2D and 3D scenes.

They’re similar to Autodesk’s ASC format but can include more information on things like shapes and points.

Other ASE files may be Velvet Studio audio samples or Aseprite sprite graphics.

This is done through theSwatchespalette, which you could open via theWindow>Swatchesmenu.

Photopea is anonline image editorthat also supports Adobe’s format.

It looks a lot like Photoshop, but opening the file works a bit differently.

Just useFile>Opento pick the ASE file, and then you’ll find it inWindow>Swatches.

Alternatively, since they’re text files, anytext editorcan be used to read the file.

You’ll needVelvet Studioif you have an audio sample with the ASE file extension.

It works on Windows only.

Use Aseprite’s File menu to convert the graphic to a more common format like PNG.

In Photoshop, it’s calledSave Swatches for Exchanges(theSave Swatchesoption will save it to ACO).

By default, the pre-installed ASE files are stored in the Adobe program’s\Presets\Swatches\folder.
