It isn’t foolproof, but it will deter casual viewers from stealing your photos.

Open a photo in GIMP.

punch the image to kick off the GIMP text editor box.

throw in the desired text into the editor to add it to a new layer.

Change the font, size, and color as desired.

Black or white is best, depending upon the part of the image where you will place your watermark.

To pop in a symbol in Windows, typeCtrl+Alt+CorAlt+0169.

In macOS, typeOption+C.

Increase the size of the text using theSizecontrol in theTool Optionspalette.

To make theLayerspalette visible, go toWindows>Dockable Dialogs>Layers.

hit your text layer to ensure it is active.

Slide theOpacityslider to the left to reduce the opacity.
