Saves progress so it’s possible for you to resume later.

Plex is a unique app.

All the typical genres are included, including one for just description audio titles.

But after even a few minutes, you’ll quickly find your way around.

Clearly differentiates free from paid.

Roku’s free movie app for Android

Adds new titles often.

It also runs on Apple TV.

Pluto TV

Watch movies while they’re playing live on TV.

Has on-demand movies that you might watch over and over.

The Yidio movie app’s filtering options

Works on lots of devices.

Has non-movie channels; can be overwhelming if you only want movies.

Can’t re-watch a film unless it’s on demand.

Only a handful of movie channels.

I like to open Pluto TV for free movies when I don’t know what to watch.

There are two ways to watch stuff here.

The cable TV-like service plays something all day long.

There are even specific movie channels that just cycle through films 24/7.

The other method is as an on-demand movie streaming service.

The app makes a clear distinction, so it’s easy to switch between the two.

This is where you want to be if you want more freedom when choosing your next film.

There are several ways to stream Pluto TV.

Filmzie

Adds new movies regularly.

Interesting genres to pick from.

No user account necessary.

The ads support the filmmakers.

Can’t sort any genre list.

Filmzie is built for independent filmmakers and small studios.

It’s my go-to when I’m looking for something totally new.

Some examples includeDirected by Women, Top Rated on IMDb, Cuddle-Up Comedies,andUndiscovered Gems.

It runs on Android and iOS.

Kanopy

Ad-free app.

Includes a section of just kids movies.

Can turn on captions and parental controls.

Must have a library card.

Few genres to pick from.

Kanopy’s free movies are only available if you have a library card at a supported library.

Every film has a rating, a full synopsis, and cast details.

There are also related videos below every movie to help you find other films you might like.

Kanopy Kids is a special area of the app that you might access from the menu.

Only kid-friendly movies are visible there, and you could set parental controls if you gotta.

The app works with iPhone, iPad, Android, and other devices.

Filmrise

Start watching immediately (no need to sign up).

Has movies and TV shows.

Simple, clean app design.

Lacks sorting options within each genre.

More free movies and shows can be streamed from the Filmrise app.

They add new content every day in genres like horror, crime, action, drama, and documentaries.

You’ll see related videos on each movie page to help you find something else you might like.

Prime Video

Properly separates movies from TV shows.

Every category list can be filtered for relevant browsing.

App-wide search includes free filter toggle.

Must have an Amazon account.

Something I especially like is how these films are organized.

But within each list, you’re able to further refine the results by subtitle language and genre.

The Roku Channel

Recommends similar movies you might like.

Highlights movies leaving soon.

Also has live TV and on-demand TV shows.

Requires a user account.

Not as user-friendly as other apps (e.g., horizontally scrolling).

Doesn’t isolate free films from ones that cost.

Can’t sort within a category.

Movies are mixed in with TV shows.

The Roku Channel is another source I use for free movies.

There’s also a live TV area that has channels that play movies.

But you don’t need one to watch movies here.

It runs on iPhone and Android.

Crackle

Lots of movies.

All films have captions.

You don’t have to sign in.

Too simple of a search tool.

Can’t sort by popularity.

Few unique categories to pick from.

The interface is easy to work with, and the videos stream smoothly.

This app used to run on Apple devices but now just works on Android.

Yidio

Helps find free movies all over the web.

Lots of filtering options to find your next favorite movie or TV show.

Hide movies marked as seen.

You need other movie apps installed to watch anything.

Not everything you see is free.

Sometimes incorrectly identifies films as free.

Yidio is more of a streamingguidethan an app that lets you watch free movies.

This means you’re able to’t watch anything directly from this app.

To reiterate, this is more of a search engine for free movies.

However, a beneficial feature is the ability to filter by installed app.

This lets you find movies available in the apps you already have on your machine.

Supported devices include iPhone, iPad, and Android.
